THE SMART CRUST BREAKER CYLINDER

CYLINDERCONSTRUCTION

Following a global study of the aluminium smelting industry by Norgren engineers, material specifications for the Crust Breaker Cylinder were driven by the toughest operating conditions encountered.

As a result, no compromises have been made in the design and manufacture of this product, and materials technology such as PTFE sealing, engineering polymer wear rings and scraper, hard-chromed piston rods and bronze bearings have been adopted as standard.

This ultimate level of material specification means that reliability and durability also come as standard. Our crust breaker cylinder will function at a sustained atmospheric temperature of 225ºC (operating through peak conditions of 250ºC for short periods), and has an industry-leading life expectancy in excess of 7 years. The cylinder has proven itself to be a highly cost-effective and durable product.

POSITIONALFEEDBACK

Pneumatic sensing valves are integrated into our crust breaker cylinders to detect full out-stroke and in-stroke conditions, minimising dwell time in the pot. The integrated control system also manages the efficient consumption of air throughout the operating cycle of the cylinder.

The feedback system serves to reduce heat conduction to the cylinder, chisel degradation, and compressed air consumption, whilst improving process control...

LATCHINGMECHANISM

This recommended option is a pneumatically operated mechanical in-stroke latch. If the air supply to the cylinder is cut when fully retracted, the latch engages and retains the cylinder in the retracted position. When air is restored, the system automatically resets ready for the next cycle...
