Ordering?

Q. What do I need to order?

A. The Norgren AquaSermo is a modular system and can be ordered under the following main part numbers.

Part Number Description Notes

SPGB 38426 Manifold / Module Each manifold gives 96 valve outputs and is 0.8m long and can be joined together to make systems of many metres in length
SPGB 38427 End Kit.  1 kit required to terminate each complete system you wish to run
SPGB 38428 Mounting Kit.  2 kits required for the first manifold then a minimum of 1 kit for every additional manifold
SPGB 38430 Communication Kit. 1 kit required for each complete 'system' that you wish to run
SPGB/BMT/38431 Power supply. 1 power supply will run 288 outputs (3 modules)
SPGB/38433/US Power Cable    (USA) Complete with circuit breaker, this connects the power supply to the mains supply. ( /EU for Europe and /UK for the UK standards)

Q. What else will I need to supply to make the AquaSermo run?

A.  The AquaSermo is a very flexible system and can be mounted in many different ways to meet your needs.  Typically you will also need the following... Laptop, mounting frame, water pump, catchment tank / trough, LED lighting.  The quality of the LED lighting is critical to achieve optimum viewing effects.

Technical

Q. Do I need specialist electronics to run the AquaSermo?

A. No, the AquaSermo will run on any modern laptop or PC with a USB port, running our protected software that is supplied with the communications kit.

Q. What are the typical weights and sizes of the AquaSermo components?

A.  The weight and sizes are

  • SPGB 38426 - Manifold - 1067 x 330 x 330 @ 15kg each boxed
  • SPGB/BMT/38431 - Power supply - 430 x 330 x 220 @ 9.5kg each boxed
  • SPGB 38427 (End Kit), SPGB 38428 (Mounting Kit), SPGB 38430 (Communication Kit) - Accessories in a single box for 6 modules 300 x 300 x 300 @10kg total for 6 modules in total and boxed

Q. How much water does the AquaSermo require to run

A. The AquaSermo typically uses water on a recirculating system.  i.e. you need to provide a pump to lift the water up to the manfiold, through the AquaSermo modules which then drops back into a tank or resevoir ready to be pumped back up to the manifold again.  Manifolds hold only 1.5 litres of water per 800mm module.  Depending on your pipework, pump and storage tank it is likely that you will need between 50 and 100 litres in total to be certain that you have enough water circulating around the system.

Q. Do I need special water?

A. No, the AquaSermo will run on any municiple water.  The water must be filtered and maintained to 5 microns to avoid valve damage.  It is the operator's responsibility to ensure that all local regulations are met in terms of protection against bacteria such as Legionella.  Norgren can provide a product known as 'Elate' that we recommend to protect against such risks.  This can be ordered under part number T060000 and can be tested with test strips that can be ordered under part number T060001

Spares

Q. Is a spares kit available?

A.  Yes, part number SPGB/38426/01.  The following items are included in the kit. PCB jmpers, fuses, ribbon cables, manifold O-rings, valve interface O-rings, M8 bolts, M8 washers, M8 nuts, M2.5 valve retaining screws.

Q. Are spare valves available?

A. Yes, although the AquaSermo valves will run for tens of millions of cylcles, and can be servicesd and cleaned for extended use, a set of 5 spares can be ordered under part number SPGB/38426/00.

This is normally caused by the controlling PC running other software applications or tasks at the same time as the Aquasermo software.  It is quite hard to prevent these "glitches" as windows is a non-deterministic operating system and any running application can grab the main processor at any time.

Improving the image

To reduce the likelihood of any glitches make sure the controlling PC is only running the Aquasermo software and nothing else at all.  The first things to check are:

  • No other applications should be running
  • Check the system tray for scheduled applications e.g. virus scans, file synchronisation programs, disk defragmentation etc. and switch these off
  • Screensavers should be disabled
  • The PC should not be serving content e.g. set up as a webserver.

If any glitches still occur, then there are still programs or services running:

  • Try switching off the virus / spyware scanners (disable network connections first to protect the PC)
  • Check the task manager and see what other applications are using the PC at the time the Aquasermo software is running.
  • Try switching off the firewalls (Windows and otherwise) though these are rarely an issue.
  • Note that if the controlling PC is only just able to run Windows XP (i.e. processor is very old, >512mb RAM) then this could also cause problems.
