Success Story - Park Brake Interlock Valve

Our Park Brake Interlock Valve was developed for a global OEM, who was looking for a valve that insured that the service brakes were pressed before the park brake could be released.

In safety critical applications such as school buses, unauthorized operation of the park brake control could result in the release of the park brakes, thus having a solution to counteract this was vital.

The solution developed by GVT utilized a uniquely simple and innovative approach. A simple piston / poppet was used to respond to service line pressure. One new development with this product is that we also combined the functionality of 7 valves (what had been used previously) into a smaller solution with 1 valve.

If the service line was not pressurized, then the park brake pressure would be exhausted which would then prevent pressurization of the park brake circuit (Park release). Included with this solution was the option of an ignition interlock.

Key advantages provided for customers...

  • Reduced footprint, increased functionality.
  • Cost savings over multiple valve assemblies.
  • Plumbing, assembly, and labor savings over multiple valve configurations.
  • Singe device with all functions integrated which can reduce the complexity which is often present with multiple component assemblies.
  • 180 degree opposed ports eliminated the need for costly T fittings.
  • Light weight, glass filled thermoplastic material and small valve design for inline installation without an additional mounting bracket.
