ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY TOILET FLUSH SYSTEM

CUSTOMERAPPLICATION

The customer is a large manufacturer of compact toilet systems for railways and other forms or transport, and uses pneumatic systems to create a vacuum which is the key part of the flushing function. It was decided that a new, modular concept for vacuum toilets was required for use on their customers’ trains.

BUSINESSCHALLENGE

Due to increasing competition, the customer needed to deliver a more compact, low cost, modular toilet which could be connected and ready to use within five minutes. In addition, the waste disposal was to be more environmentally friendly than previous designs and the minimum amount of water was to be used when flushing.

NORGRENSOLUTION

To meet these demanding requirements for the customer, Norgren’s engineers designed a modular flushing system comprising three compact M/90000 series cylinders which work in a cycle to actuate the vacuum flush. The actuators are controlled by six Nugget 40 solenoid valves that are mounted on a custom-built manifold with integral filters and an 07 series regulator. A specially extended sub-base was designed to enable to valve to form an integral part of the toilet.

ENGINEERINGADVANTAGE

The completed modular flushing system enabled Norgren’s customer to provide a more cost effective product with improved performance to the market. The system could be connected within five minutes, was environmentally friendly and used minimal water when flushing. Norgren met the demands of the desired specification and the resulting product won a significant amount of business for the customer.
