CUSTOMERAPPLICATION

The customer is a manufacturer of train door opening and closing systems that are used in rail transport applications, and utilises pneumatics to control these systems. Reliabillity, safety and the speed of action of the valves is therefore very important.

BUSINESSCHALLENGE

The customer required a new pneumatic exterior door control valve for a particular class of locomotive to replace an old Beech valve mechanism. The parts used in the old system had become obsolete so the customer requested an updated product. The new system had to fit onto the existing sub-base to ensure that the original pipework was not disturbed during installation.

NORGRENSOLUTION

Norgren's engineering team developed an effective package for the customer, using a modified Nugget 120 spool valve with a customised solenoid coil, specified to meet the demands of this rail application. The system used the original sub-base and was engineered to make the valve change quick and straightforward, ensuring minimum downtime for the customer.

The resulting pneumatic train door system helped to ensure compatibility which was vital to the customer, with Norgren products being tailored specifically for this task.
