CUSTOMISED DOOR SYSTEMS
CUSTOMERAPPLICATION
Norgren is the biggest supplier of interior door systems globally, and offers a wide range of solutions to meet a variety of customer needs. Train carriage manufacturers require doors with specifications dependant upon opening and closing times, entrapment requirements and fire safety regulations, as well as whether the door is single or biparting.
BUSINESSCHALLENGE
A typical door system requirement will need the pneumatically-actuated door to meet the most stringent fire safety regulation; BS 6853 Cat 1B. It will need to open in 2 seconds and close within 4 seconds, and ensure that passengers cannot become entrapped, re-opening if someone stands between the doors when closing. The doors will also have to close if there is a loss of power or air pressure on the train.
NORGRENSOLUTION
Norgren’s engineers design a customer-specific solution to meet the requirements and constraints of the particular carriage. Norgren’s doors easily surpass the 30 minute fire barrier requirement of the BS 6853 Cat 1B standard, and do not allow passenger entrapment (see photo to the right showing the door before the fire test, at the start of the test, and after 30 minutes). The doors also automatically close upon loss of power or air pressure.
ENGINEERINGADVANTAGE
Norgren’s door solutions are reliable, using a range of proven Norgren pneumatic products including Excel 32 3/2 Valves, ball valves, pressure switches, specially-designed silencers, pressure regulators and flow regulators. They are easy to maintain, with specially designed filters that are easy to replace, and the systems operate smoothly and safely. They are also compact, and engineered to fit into even the smallest of space envelopes.
