CUSTOMERAPPLICATION

The customer is a major train door manufacturer for the rail industry, and uses pneumatic systems to operate its automatic train door products on class 158 vehicles. The valve systems are mounted separately in the ceiling, together with the piping and regulators required to complete the pneumatic system.

BUSINESSCHALLENGE

This valve system was due for refurbishment and although the previous design had worked satisfactorily, the customer requested that a new replacement unit be designed by Norgren. This unit needed to be modular in design making it easier to replace, and also be a better-engineered solution which would replace individually piped and wired valves.

NORGRENSOLUTION

To solve this problem for the customer, Norgren's design team engineered a modular replacement that consisted of a single plug-in block which housed Nugget 40 valves, combined with T20 flow regulators and 20K banjo bolts. This provided the customer with a simplified solution which offered improved performance.

ENGINEERINGADVANTAGE

Norgren exceeded the expectations of the customer by offering a customised solution that met the design requirements, as well as delivering a short installation time for the product which resulted in reduced downtime for the customer. The door control assembly was also a more elegant solution that offered improved performance.
