PNEUMATIC POINTS MOTOR CONTROL
CUSTOMERAPPLICATION
The customer is a large company in the provision of passenger rail transport, and responsible for the safety and maintenance of trains and stations. It uses pneumatic systems to control track points, so reliability, safety and speed of action of the valves used within this critical system are paramount.
BUSINESSCHALLENGE
The customer required an improved pnuematic control system for its track points controls, describing its existing system as too cumbersome and complicated, unreliable and slow. The challenge for Norgren was to remedy all the deficiencies with the current system, and generate a design with a standard 'footprint' for the control valves and pressure switches. The design also had to be flexible enough to accommodate 4 different types of applications, each requiring a different circuit.
NORGRENSOLUTION
Norgren's design team was able to not only meet the requirements of the customer specification, but it exceeded all expectations by providing a common compact design with the use of ISO Star valves and universal bases, Webber valves, 18D pressure switches and associated isolation valves and Pneufit fittings. The system was proved in trials and was encased by Norgren in a tamper-proof lockable aluminium box.
ENGINEERINGADVANTAGE
This project was an example of Norgren understanding the specific needs of the customer for an application and delivering results that improved performance for the customer over and above what was initially expected. The end result for the customer was a system that had a lower cost, was pre-tested and tamper-proof, required minimal and easier maintenance, and incorporated 4 different circuits in the same size cabinet with the same valve 'footprint'.
