What is an Angle Seat Valve?

An Angle Seat Valve, also known as an Angle Seat Piston Valve, is a 2-way pneumatically actuated valve that moves a piston actuator off its seat based on the pilot signal it receives. A separate pneumatic pilot valve controls the actuator that moves the valve piston up and down, opening or closing the valve. The pilot signal is typically air, but fluids & gases such as water, oil or nitrogen can also be used depending on the application.

As the seat is positioned at an angle, it does not impede flow when the valve is fully open.

What are the benefits of using an Angle Seat Valve?

• Higher flow rates and shorter switching cycles compared to solenoid valves

• Approved for use in Ex-areas (zones with a potentially explosive atmosphere) without further safeguards

• Easy rebuilding into normally closed or double acting

• Prevent water hammer as the medium itself is used to damp closing of the valve against the flow direction

• Can be used with contaminated fluids

• Flexibility for the user due to numerous piloting options – 3/2 way pilot valves, valve islands etc

• Choice of actuator (polymer, Brass, Stainless steel) and valve body (Brass, Stainless steel) materials to suit a variety of media and applications

• Valve body available in both Brass (CW617N) and Stainless steel (1.4408)

When to use an Angle Seat Valve?

• When high flow rates are required

• Where neutral pilot fluids such as air or water are available

• To control high viscous fluids – up to 600mm2/s, contaminated or aggressive fluids

• In applications requiring very quick opening and closing times

• To control hardwater

• When back pressure tightness is required

How do they work?

Despite the significant abilities of these valves, their mode of operation is simple: a pressurized neutral control medium such as air, water or nitrogen is filled into the actuator which moves the valve piston up or down thus opening or closing the valve.
