Case Study

Custom solenoid valves improve burn in system performance

18 May 2026

Improving cooling efficiency, reliability and deployment speed in high‑demand electronics burn‑in applications. As electronics manufacturers respond to growing data‑centre and computing demand, burn‑in systems are being pushed harder than ever. They must deliver precise thermal control, operate reliably under demanding conditions and be deployed quickly to support increased production volumes. This application‑led project shows how a custom solenoid valve manifold helped one electronics manufacturer improve cooling performance and system uptime, while meeting tight space constraints and accelerating time to market.

Burn‑in testing at scale

As demand for high performance electronics continues to grow, manufacturers are under increasing pressure to test components quickly, reliably and at scale. Burn in systems play a critical role in this process, validating microprocessors, circuit boards and other sensitive electronics under controlled thermal and pressure conditions before they are deployed into service.

For one established electronics manufacturing customer, a surge in demand - driven by ongoing data centre expansion - exposed limitations in an existing burn in cooling design. We were asked to develop a more efficient, reliable and compact valve solution capable of meeting higher performance requirements without increasing system complexity.

The challenge: higher demand, tighter constraints

The customer required valves to support an increasing volume of burn in systems while improving cooling cycle efficiency and long term reliability. Their application placed several demanding requirements on the fluid control solution:

  • Operation under high differential pressures and elevated flow rates

  • Precise thermal control during burn in, followed by rapid system cooling

  • Compact design to fit within dense system layouts

  • Resistance to repeated liquid rotation and sustained high temperature environments

At the same time, the customer wanted to minimise installation time and avoid delays caused by sourcing multiple components from different suppliers.

The solution: a custom engineered manifold

We engineered a custom valve manifold using standard KIP series solenoid valves, enhanced to deliver increased flow performance. The integrated manifold design distributes fluid only where required during the burn in process, enabling accurate temperature regulation at board level while supporting rapid cool down once testing is complete.

By delivering the manifold as a fully integrated, turnkey assembly, we eliminated additional sourcing and assembly steps for the customer. This simplified system installation and allowed new burn in systems to be deployed faster - supporting increased production throughput.

The result: improved efficiency and system reliability

The custom built solution delivered measurable benefits across both performance and operations:

  • Improved cooling cycle efficiency through higher flow capability and targeted fluid distribution

  • Compact, space efficient design suitable for tightly packed burn in systems

  • Reduced unplanned downtime thanks to a durable, integrated valve solution with long service life

  • Faster deployment through turnkey delivery, shortening overall installation and commissioning time

  • Future ready scalability to support growing demand from data centre driven electronics production

By integrating a purpose designed valve manifold into their systems, the customer strengthened overall reliability while maintaining precise temperature control throughout the burn in process.

Engineering support for demanding electronics applications

This project demonstrates how custom fluid control solutions can unlock higher performance in critical electronics manufacturing processes. By combining application knowledge with adaptable valve technology, we support customers in scaling production efficiently - without compromising reliability or system integrity.
